The Mason List

Sometimes, just seeing the cover of a book becomes love at first sight. That’s exactly what happened to me with “The Mason List”. At first I was hooked on the title, don’t ask me why, if a title contains the word “list” I am instantly allured.

Our protagonists have been best friends since they were eight years old, and they couldn’t be more different. Jess Manson, the heir of the most prominent family in town, and Alex, a homeless girl who, by a stroke of luck ends up living in his ranch.

The story is told with two different storylines. The fist one narrates the mental breakdown of Alex, we don’t get to know what happened, only that it was bad. The other storyline starts off when they first met and how their lives progress. It is very enchanting being able to take part in the unique relationship that they share.

The feel-good factor is entwined in the development of their relationship. We are able to see how they support each other no matter what, and how words sometimes are better left unsaid. The conversations between Alex and her father are also very enlightening: we can grasp the difference in their point of view of the same event: Manson’s kindness. She is torn because of it and her father embraces it with no doubts.

It is a book worth reading; once you start it you won’t be able to put it down.
